| Introduction
and Aims of the course
The new communication and information technologies are in constant development.
This and the globalisation phenomenon have led in the last years to a
situation in which the majority of the generalist media have given an
increasing importance to international information.
The current context registers a journalistic interdependence between countries
never seen before. In this context, not all of the redactors that join
the international politics sections have specific education in conflicts,
geostrategy, or even in world economy. This is why one of the main motivations
of this programme is to establish a link between the students and the
journalists at an international scope. The aim is not only to give them
the appropriate tools that expand their knowledge but also to help them
to develop the journalistic practice and the structure and functioning
of the post of correspondent.
We offer a postgraduate course that combines theory and practice focussed
on those journalists willing to work at international post of correspondent.
The course has the following guidelines:
- Give interpretative keys on the main scenes of international
interest and the most relevant world institutions.
- Combine journalistic theory and praxis. The teacher will structure the
sessions in two blocks: a theoretical one (in which the country or the
region of the correspondent will be analysed); and a rather practical
one (in which the internal working, the routines and their journalistic
timing will be brought up).
- Establish links between the students and the journalists.
- We will give a broad view of the daily routines of the post of correspondent
and the possibilities of the different supports and journalistic means.
This will be done by means of round table debates.
Profile
The structure of the programme opens the course to different profiles.
It is open to journalists with no previous experience as international
journalism correspondents, and to those professionals who -although they
are in active service- are willing to have a close look at the structure
and management of post of corespondent, and the main international conflicts
and institutions.
