| Introduction
and Aims of the course
Show criticism (specially film and music criticism), is one of the most
attractive branches not only for students and bachelors of Journalism
and Audiovisual Communication but also for Humanities, Art History and
Literary Theory students and bachelors.
Films and music have a very relevant role in the traditional media (daily
press, radio, television, specialised magazines). However, it is also
predictable that they will acquire such a relevant role within the Net
in the next years. To start with, take a look at gateways such as Inicia,
Jumpy or Eresmás. They show the relevance of this type of criticism.
The professional practice of film and pop music criticism demands a knowledge
of different matters: among them History of the Cinema, History of Cinematographic
Criticism and Analysis of Cultural Consumption. Besides, the critic must
have a broad knowledge of the functioning and structure of the cultural
sectors that generate the products that will be the subjects to criticism.
The modules in this course have two aims: the first one is to train capable
professionals. The second one is to give the first contact with these
fields for those people interested in the latest contributions to theory
and research in the fields of contemporary popular culture.
Profile
The course is addressed to bachelors of Communication, Art History, Sociology,
and Anthropology who are interested in working in the cultural sector
as critics, promoters, cultural managers, etc.
