Introduction and Aims of the course

In the last years, audiovisual productions have increased substantially, both in quantity, in quality and in the financial strategies and the production processes.
Increasing slowly, within business management, there is a growing awareness of the fact that on the grounds of a good audiovisual production (cinema or television) we find, firstly, the identification of a good project and, secondly, the development of a script -a well told story in relation to the canons previously established.

In big and small companies there are professionals that analyse, value the projects, and monitor the writing of the scripts. We are talking about script analysers and story editors –the interface between the scriptwriter and the producer-. This increasing professional profiles leave behind the typical image of the gentleman with good smell for the Havana cigars and to “sense” good stories. This is why we suggest a postgraduate course that combine theory and practice, addressed to future script analysts, story editors and professionals in charge of the project development. The aims are the following:

- To provide the student with the tools to analyse and value scripts and fiction projects, using as a model the traditional dramatic canons and the own variations of the genre.
- To propose planning methods and methods for the development of products.
- To transmit the fact that the script is a basic piece in the consecution of a good
result.
- To put students in contact with professionals (directors, scriptwriters, heads of development, story editors) in a relaxed context -as it is the university context- to get first hand information and encourage dialog. Sometimes this is more difficult in the business context.

Profile

The syllabus is elaborated in a way that bachelors who have not had any previous contact with the script can have access to it. Professionals related to the field –bachelors of communication sciences, producers, directors, scriptwriters, critics, playwrights, etc- who although their proximity to it, have never looked at the script and the production process from the point of view of analysis.
