| Introduction
and Aims of the course
The aim of this postgraduate course is to prepare professionals in the
knowledge of the methods and the technologies used in the audiovisual
production and direction. This is a way to complement the knowledge acquired
at the Audiovisual Communication studies and the knowledge acquired in
similar areas. For this purpose professionals of the sector give a practical
background.
Methodology
The course is structured in three modules that comprise
the most relevant action scopes of the audiovisual producer and director.
We are aware of the variety and complexity of the tasks
carried out by these professionals. This is why the first module is focussed
on the learning of the common foundations to production and direction
of any audiovisual product. The two following modules get the student
into the two main areas of audiovisual production: the fiction and the
non-fiction products.
The first module puts some restrictions to the character
of the producer and the director in the chain of audiovisual production.
The common technologies and procedures to all genres will also be explained
on this first module.
The next module is devoted to the production and direction of fiction.
Special attention is paid to the production and direction of television
dramatics.
The next module is about non-fiction production and direction.
On this part special attention will be paid to the direction of news reports
on television and the direction and production of documentaries. We must
not forget that the production and direction of documentaries will not
only consist of a theoretical introduction and a practical exercise. The
students will be also expected to produce and direct a television diffusion
quality documentary (in teams of 3/4 people).
All along the course the students will do exercises related to the subjects
they have studied. The same subjects appear in several modules as they
include common methodologies for all specialties.
In the rest of the modules, they will do specific
exercises complemented by visits to centres of audiovisual production
(such as television stations and producers).
