| Introduction
and Aims of the course
The search for style is an essential motivation in any communicative activity
that aims to transmit its own particular vision of reality. The professionals
of the several communication fields meet often the challenge of satisfying
this expressive uneasiness that always has the elaboration of the written
word as a starting point or as an aim.
Unconnectedly with the field in which it is applied (audiovisual,
journalistic or literary), the teaching of writing cannot find better
foundations than the humanistic tradition, and this is the criterion that
has dominated the designing of this postgraduate course: Text Composition.
Rhetoric, poetics and criticism are the three perspectives that articulate
the itinerary of this course, which is focussed on the production and
the analysis of texts.
Some of the subjects of the syllabus will be taught by professionals
of the different genres and will be approached to in a predominantly practical
manner. Other subjects will have a tendency towards methodological reflection
and will be taught by renowned theoreticians of Communication and Literature
fields. The whole subject will offer a journey through thought, structure
and style in literary narration, journalistic report, film, television
or radio script, and the opinion article.
The course is addressed mainly to bachelors of Communication
Sciences and Humanities. However, it is also open to students coming from
other disciplines who are interested in expanding their knowledge or who
would like to orientate their professional practice towards areas somehow
related to creative writing. Thus, it is an excellent opportunity to acquire
the necessary knowledge in interpreting and composing texts or to enrich
the professional practice of communication with the critical referents
of the literary tradition.
